You want to keep your readers entertained, and inspired. Some words
just bog down your writing and aren't a good idea to use. Many of them are fine
to use when you are speaking to someone, but not so great for the written word.
Avoid these six words and your writing will improve, advises JohnPhanchalad, who is the CEO of the successful JP Digital Tech consulting
services
Quite – If you use the word “quite,” you usually mean something like
either a little bit or completely or almost, but not quite. It's a word that
only adds fluff most of the time. It's better to use a different word.
Amazing – This word is often overused by too many people and is
associated with pop culture. It's overused so much that it has lost any value
or meaning.
Literally – If something is true, you don't need to add “literally.”
This is another word that is often misused. Too many people are saying
“literally,” when they don't really mean it. If it's literal, you don't need to
tell your audience.
Stuff – Stuff is a bit too informal. It's too casual and too generic.
Call your stuff exactly what it is.
Things – “Things” are like “stuff.” The term is too general. Name your
things when you write.
Got – “Got” is a lazy word that's fine in speech, but too lazy for the
written word, especially if you are trying to convey a professional persona.
